WALES AND ITS PRECIOUS RURAL LANDSCAPE- THE ECONOMY VERSUS THE ENVIRONMENT

economy versus the environment. I chose this title carefully and purposefully but actually I should not be here talking about the ‘economy versus the environment’ but rather the economy and the environment. Over the course of the evening, I aim to demonstrate to you that these two pillars of our society, so often pitted against each other, should not be opponents, but, going forward, MUST be made to work in harmony for the benefit of us all. Indeed, it is not realistic to have a thriving environment without a strong economy, and a strong economy is of no benefit if our environment is no longer able to support the people living in it. We need to look globally to get the full picture because both the environment and the economy are under threat.
