Originally from Penclawdd near Swansea, Robert was educated at Gowerton School and University College of Wales Aberystwyth, graduating with honours in music. He was subsequently awarded a research scholarship gaining a Master’s degree in Welsh Choral Music during the 19th Century. He is the former Content Editor for cultural programmes at S4C, and Director of Ty Cerdd – Music Centre Wales.

A former Head of Music at Maes-yr-yrfa Comprehensive School, Cefneithin, he then became a member of His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Scholls in Wales.

Robert is a well-known conductor and organist, having conducted the National Australian Cymanfa Ganu in Melbourne on six occasions, and also the North American Cymanfa Ganu in Niagara Falls. He has appeared as the official organist at the National Eisteddfod of Wales on numerous occasions, accompanying the main ceremonies for the Gorsedd of Bards and the National Cymanfa Ganu.

In October 2016, he returned for the fourth time as guest organist at the London Welsh Festival of Male Choirs, at The Royal Albert Hall.

Since November 2015, Robert is minister at the Welsh Church of Central London, Oxford Circus and has recently been elected vice-president of the Baptist Union of Wales.
