
Sir Martin Griffiths read History and Modern Languages at New College, Oxford, and was called to the Bar by the Inner Temple. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel and elected as a Master of the Bench of the Inner Temple.
In 2019, he became a High Court Judge in the Queen’s Bench Division (now King’s Bench Division). He is currently the Presiding Judge of Wales. He is also Deputy Chancellor of the Diocese of Peterborough.
He is Chairman of the Wales Training Committee of the Judicial College, with responsibility for the training of Courts and Tribunals judiciary in Wales. He is a member of the Judges’ Council Committee for Wales. He is on the Executive Committee of the Law Council of Wales. He is the Chairman of the Lord Chancellor’s Standing Committee for the Welsh Language.
Born in London, he has been a lifelong member of the Cymmrodorion. His father, Roy Arnold Griffiths, was from Swansea and was the grandson of the Welsh rugby international Willie Arnold.
