Genius making its habitation among us: the musical vision for Wales of Walford Davies

December 10, 2020, 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Dr Rhian Davies

Dr Rhian Davies: Artistic Director, Gregynog Festival and Honorary Fellow, Bangor University

Henry Walford Davies (1869-1941) was Director of the National Council of Music for Wales (1918-41), Gregynog Professor of Music at Aberystwyth University (1919-26), and Edward Elgar’s successor as Master of the King’s Musick (1934-41). Dr Rhian Davies explores the life and work of this charismatic musician and broadcaster whose trailblazing initiatives ‘to further the expression of Welsh nationality in music’ were bankrolled by the ‘boundless generosity’ of Gwendoline and Margaret Davies.

This lecture has moved from 20 October.
