Designing Wales: an archive for Welsh architecture
Dr Peter Wakelin, writer and curator specializing in built heritage and visual art.
This online lecture will be live, with questions from the audience.
Architectural drawings, models and photographs are crucial for understanding architecture in Wales. However, the records of individual practices have often been at risk of loss and finding and using architectural papers can be challenging. This illustrated talk will explore some of the richest Welsh architectural records and their potential applications – in research, education, management of the built environment and inspiration for contemporary design. It will describe the new project to encourage the preservation and use of architectural archives led by the Royal Society of Architects in Wales in collaboration with the principal archival bodies.
Dr Peter Wakelin writes about art and heritage. He undertook the feasibility study that led to the formation of Architectural Archives Advisory Panel for Wales in 2019. He was formerly Secretary of the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales and Director of Collections at Amgueddfa Cymru-National Museum Wales.
