Research Excellence Framework 2021: call for nominations for Panels and sub-panels
The UK’s higher education funding bodies are seeking research experts from diverse backgrounds, institution types and geographical regions to serve as sub-panel members in the second Research Excellence Framework exercise, which will be held in 2021.
They particularly welcome nominations of candidates from groups previously under-represented on assessment panels, including women, people from black and ethnic minority backgrounds, and disabled people.
The application process is open now.
The Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion is a nominating body and, as such, has an opportunity to make nominations for subjects in which it has a particular interest (that is, “Literature, History, The Arts and Science in so far as they are of special interest to Welsh people”, as provided for in the Charter) and in those that require specialist Welsh/Wales expertise (e.g. Modern Languages and Linguistics, where Celtic Studies now sits). A list of the 34 disciplinary sub-panels / Units of Assessments may be found at Annex B to the document Roles and Recruitment of the Expert Panels (REF/2017/03).
The Executive Committee has agreed that nominations of members of the Society who are interested in participating and are qualified to apply should be submitted in the name of the Society.
There are a number of roles available:
- Additional main panel member – interdisciplinary
- Additional main panel member – international
- Additional main panel member – wider use and benefits of research
- Sub-panel member – practising researcher
- Sub-panel member – wider use and benefits of research
- Interdisciplinary research (IDR) adviser
For further information, including the provisional timetable for the REF and the workload of panels, please see the document, Roles and Recruitment of the Expert Panels. A template setting out the information that will need to be submitted in respect of each nominee may be found at Annex E of the document. If you are a member of the Society and wish to propose yourself for nomination and/or to submit one or more proposals in respect of other members, you will need to provide the information listed in the template for each candidate. Proposals should reach the Honorary Secretary (firstname.lastname@example.org) by no later than Monday, 11 December 2017, so as to enable nominations to be submitted by the closing date of 20 December.
