Professor Helen Fulton
Helen Fulton grew up in Cheltenham and London before emigrating with her family to Australia. She is a graduate of the University of Sydney and the University of Oxford, where she trained as a Celticist, and spent three years in the University of Wales, Aberystwyth as a postdoctoral fellow. Her research has mainly been on medieval Welsh poetry, and she learned modern Welsh while living in Aberystwyth. After teaching Middle Welsh and Old Irish at the University of Sydney for 15 years, Helen returned to the UK, firstly to a professorship at Swansea University and then to the Chair of Medieval Literature at the University of York where she now lives.
Helen has published a number of books and many articles on medieval literature, with a particular focus on medieval Welsh literature. She has also held management positions as head of department and head of school. Helen has been the editor of the Transactions of the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion since 2008. She has two sons and is married to the academic and broadcaster Geraint Evans, a native Welsh speaker.
